Work Experience

January 1993-current, Professor, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China, mainly working on R& D of novel metallic biomaterials, advanced structural steels and hydrogen storage alloys.

September 1991-January 1993, China Research Fellow of the Royal Society, Department of Materials, University of Oxford, UK, working on fabrication of Ti composites with hydrogen as a temporary alloying element.

May 1989-September 1991, Research Associate, Associate Professor (November 1990), Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang, China, mainly working on study of hydrogen resistant steels.

Research Focus

♦ Novel metallic biomaterials, including nickel-free austenitic stainless steel, Cu-bearing stainless steels, biodegradable magnesium alloys, antibacterial metals (stainless steels, titanium alloys, Co-based alloys), bio-functionalized metals, and applications of novel metallic biomaterials in orthopedics, dentistry and coronary stents.

♦ Advanced structural steels, including high strength pipeline steels, heat resistant steels, ultra-high strength maraging steels, high nitrogen stainless steels.

♦ Hydrogen storage alloys and applications, including LaNi5 based alloys, TiZr based alloys, Mg based alloys, hydrogen purification, hydrogen gas pressuring, metal hydride refrigeration.
