China’s 1000kg Thrust Turbofan Engine Completes the First Flight Test

2017-12-22

China’s first 1000 kg thrust turbofan aviation engine has passed its first flight test on October 27, 2017.

It is developed by the 3 Institute of Aerospace Science and Engineering Group 31. And the coating technology including lubrication, obturage, wear-resistance, resistance to high temperature oxidation is provided by the coating team from Non-equilibrium Metallic Materials Division, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS).

Researchers of IMR founded a new coating system by coating design, material development and technique study. The thermal spray technology of IMR is brought to the next new level according to this project.

The1000 kg thrust turbofan aviation engine is targeted at the same level of international advanced engine technology index, with long life, high altitude, low fuel consumption and low infrared characteristics.

The success of the first flight test indicates that the development of this type of engine has achieved a phased victory. It is an important milestone in the development of 1000 kilogram thrust type turbofan engine in china.
