Shan, Yiyin, male, born in 1965, is a professor at Institute of Medal Research, Chinese Academy of Science. He is the project leader of innovative Advanced Structure Steel project, vice chairman of the National Steel Standardization Technical Committee - metallographic technology sub-committee, and technical board director of National Reactor Physics and Nuclear Material Professional Committee, China Nuclear Physics Society.

Prof. Shan’s work focused on ultra-supercritical power, future nuclear power, future fusion reactor heat-resistant and thermo-stable steels with irradiation and corrosion resistant. Other important steel structure materials research he conducts include aerospace-use ultra-high strength maraging steel, maraging stainless steels with high strength and toughness, and high-performance pipeline steel for energy transmission. He has undertaken and completed more than 20 projects, which involve "973", "863", National Natural Science Foundation of China, Knowledge Innovation Project of Academy of Sciences, and Strategic Pilot Project of Chinese Academy of Science.

In the past many years, he supported many domestic enterprises such as China Railway Group Corporation as a material science consultant; he has also build close collaborations with both domestic and foreign units such as Boeing company, BOSCH company, Bao Steel, Anshan Iron and Steel company, and Guangdong Power Grid Co., Ltd.

He has published more than 170 academic papers, 2 monographs and obtained more than 40 patents in the field of steel material composition design, heat deformation and microstructure research. His received awards in the past include first prize in technological progress by the Ministry of Metallurgy, second prize in technological progress by China National Petroleum Corporation, second prize of Liaoning Province Natural Science and of Liaoning Province technology progress, and a third prize of Natural Science in Hebei Province. Prof. Shan’s research continues to lay strong foundation in the design and preparation of heat-resisting steel for ultra-supercritical power, structural material for nuclear equipment with balanced resistances to high temperature, radiation and corrosion, high performance maraging steel, oil and gas transportation, ocean platforms, and automotive micro-alloyed steel.
