The 2nd KIMS-IMR Joint Symposium on Magnesium and Titanium Alloys was held at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR,CAS) from Nov. 3rd to 6th, 2011. Seven Korean researchers representing the Korea Institute of Materials Science participated in this symposium.
On the opening ceremony, welcome speech was given by Prof. LU Ke, the director of IMR. Five keynote lectures were presented by Dr. Yong-Tai Lee and Dr. Suk-Bong Kang from KIMS, Prof. HAN Enhou and Prof. YANG Rui from IMR, Dr. Anil Sachdev from the R&D center of GM in the first part of the symposium. A total of 17 presentations were given reporting the speakers’ latest research results in the fields of magnesium and titanium alloys, and more than 50 researchers and students attended the symposium. During the symposium, the Korean delegation visited Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, Environmental Corrosion Research Center and the Hunnan Campus of IMR.
General Collaborative Agreement between IMR and KIMS was signed in Beijing during the visit of Myung-Bak Lee, the president of South Korean, to China in May 2008. The series of Joint Symposiums on Magnesium and Titanium Alloys was suggested by Kyung-Mox Cho, the director of NIMS, in his visit to IMR in Aug. 2010. The symposium is an important part for the science and technology cooperation of the two institutes. The 3rd joint symposium will be held in Korea next year.
