Authorized by Chinese Materials Research Society, IMR held the 5th Trilateral Conference on Advances in Nanoscience: Energy, Water & Healthcare from Sept. 25 to 28, 2014. The trilateral conference is jointly sponsored by materials society from China, India and Singapore who take turns to undertaking it once a year.

The conference was hosted by the chairman, Prof. CHENG Huiming, member of CAS. Prof. ZHANG Jian, Deputy Director of IMR, gave a welcome speech and Prof. HAN Yafang, on behalf of Chinese Materials Research Society, delivered an address. Furthermore, Prof. B. V. R. Chowdari, from National University of Singapore, the chairman of the Materials Research Society of Singapore introduced the history and mission of the conference.

The conference invited more than 40 scientists from China, India and Singapore including: Prof. B. V. R. Chowdari, the chairman of 2011-2012 International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS) and Materials Research Society of Singapore, from National University of Singapore; Prof. ZENG Huachun, Top 100 Chemists 2000-2010, from National University of Singapore; Prof. G. Sundarajan, the chairman of Materials Research Society of India, from International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI); Prof. Ashok K Ganguli, from Indian Institute of Technology; Prof. WEI Fei, from Tsinghua University; Prof. Zhu Meifang, from Donghua University; and Prof. WANG Rongming, from Beihang University.

The conference has built a good platform for scientists in relevant research field to freely exchange the ideas through deep communication and discussion both hot topic and difficulties in energy, water and healthcare. Prof. SU Dangsheng, Prof. LI Feng, Prof. LI Qi and Prof. Liu Baodan from IMR were also invited to give a lecture respectively entitled “Carbon catalysis for Energy Related reaction”, “Optimization of the Energy Density of Carbon-Based Supercapacitors”, “Highly Efficient Nano-adsorption for the removal of Arsenic from water” and “Rational Synthesis, Defect Controlling and optoelectronic properties of GaN nanostructures”.

The conference was supported financially by Chinese Materials Research Society and National Nature Science Foundation of China.
