Professor Yip obtained his Ph. D. from the University of Michigan in 1962. He joined MIT since 1965, and was appointed a professor there in 1973. His research interests are mainly on nuclear physics and computational materials science, and he made great contributions to the atomistic simulation of materials, transport behavior, and neutron diffraction. He has published more than 300 papers and 5 books, including the two-volume reference book he edited: Handbook of Materials Modeling, published in 2005. He is the Principal Editor of Journal of Computer-Aided Materials Design, and an editorial board member of Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering. He won many honors and awards, including Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Institute of Physics, John Simon Guggenheim Fellow, US Senior Scientist Award from Humboldt, and Outstanding Professor Award from ANS, etc.
