Professor Tasadduq Khan from ONERA (Office National d’Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales – The French Aeronautics and Space Research Centre ) recipient of the Lee Hsun Lecture Series-Lecture Award, visited the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 21 to 24 June 2006. During the visit he gave the Lee Hsun Lecture entitled: Development of superalloys for Gas Turbine Blades and Disks: current status and prospects. Professor Rui Yang, Deputy Director of IMR, presented the memorial plate of the lecture to Professor Khan at a short ceremony before the lectures. During his visit, Professor Khan met with Prof. Zhuangqi Hu, and held informal discussions with Prof. Hu’s groups working on superlloys in IMR, he also take a lab tour in the Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science and Materials R & D Research Center IMR.

Prof. Tasadduq Khan is currently Scientific Director of Materials and Structures Branch of ONERA and Visiting Professor at Imperial College, London. Author of around 100 publications in international journals, he holds 14 Patents on High Temperature Materials. He is the inventor of three high temperature alloys currently being used in M88 engine (Rafale fighter) and advanced Turbomeca engines for helicopters. Professor Khan was prominent in a wide range of activities covering high temperature alloys including superalloys, intermetallic compounds, rapidly solidified materials and mechanical behaviour of materials. He is currently responsible for strategic planning and evaluation of all the activities related to metallic and composite materials, structural mechanics as well as structural dynamics and coupled systems within ONERA. He is a member of the Editorial Board of 6 international journals and organized numerous International Conferences. He is the recipient of the following distinctions/awards: Fellow of American Society for Materials-ASM (1989), Jules Garnier Prize (France,1992), Science and Defence Award  (France, 1993),  Fellow of the Aeronautical and Astronautical Society  (France, 2004), Associate Member of the French Academy of Air and Space (2004).
