Professor Patrick Veyssiere from Laboratory for Microstructural Studies (LEM), CNRS-ONERA, France, recipient of the Lee Hsun Research Award, visited the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2 to 14 July 2006.
Prof. Huiming Cheng, Deputy Director of IMR, presented the memorial plate of Hsun Lee Research Award to Prof. Veyssiere at a short ceremony before the lectures, on 3 July. During his visit, Prof. Veyssiere gave several lectures entitled: (1) Crystal plasticity: state of the art, methods and some reflections on its future; (2) From individual to collective dislocation behavior, some applications of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to plasticity investigations of real crystals; (3) TEM method for dislocation observation. He also spent 4 half days to help junior scientists and Ph.D. students to improve their scientific presentations, and held individual discussions with some scientists and graduate students on a variety of research topics of mutual interest.
Prof. Veyssiere graduated from the University of Poitiers, France and became an Assistant Professor in 1968. From 1988 to 2000, he was the head of the Laboratory for Microstructural Studies (LEM), and held a permanent position (Director of Research) in the French National Agency for Scientific Research (CNRS) sine 1988. His research interests are mainly on: (1) plasticity (experiments - simulations
