The recipient of 2006 Lee Hsun Lecture Series on Materials Science, Prof. Hael Mughbrabi from University Erlangen-Nuernberg Germany visited Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR CAS) from Aug 23-29, 2006.
During his visit, Prof. Mughrabi gave several interesting lectures entitled: (1) Cyclic Deformation and Fatigue of Ultrafine-Grained Metals; (2) Fatigue Mechanisms in the Ultrahigh Cycle Regime and (3) Role of Geometrically Necessary Dislocations in Inducing Long-Range Internal Stresses and Lattice Plane Misorientations in Deformed Crystals. Besides, he visited Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL) and R
Prof. Mughrabi obtained his Ph.D degree from Stuttgart University in 1970, and became a C3 Professorship of Ruhr-University Bochum in 1981, finally accepted a C4 Professorship of Friedrich-Alexander-Universiy Erlangen-Nurnberg in 1982. From 1991-1993 he was elected as Dean of the Engineering Faculty of Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. His research interests mainly focused on cyclic deformation of materials, plasticity and strength theory and high-temperature fatigue and creep of super-alloys. He is a well known scientist on fatigue, creep and strength theory of materials. He has published more than 270 journal papers and edited 7 books, and becomes several international board member of international conference.
