Professor Tetsuo Shoji, Vice President for Research of Tohoku University, Japan, recipient of the Lee Hsun Lecture Series - Lecture Award, visited the Institute of Metal Research Chinese Academy of Sciences on 13, Oct. 2006.
In the morning of 13 Oct, Prof. Huiming Cheng, Deputy Director of IMR, presented the memorial plate of lecture award to Prof. Shoji at a short ceremony before the lecture. During the visit Prof. Shoji gave a lecture entitled: Fundamentals of mechanics and Mechanisms of stress corrosion cracking – crack tip mechanics and stress enhanced oxidation, visited Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Corrosion Protection and Environmental Corrosion Center. He also had discussion with Prof. Enhou Han, other scientists and Ph. D students. Prof. Shoji is impressed by recent fundamental research work of IMR.
Prof. Tetsuo Shoji obtained his Ph. D degree from Mechanical Engineering, Tohoku University, Japan, and became a Professor in 1988, from 2005 to now, he is Vice resident for Research of Tohoku University. He mainly interest research field on Physics and Chemistry of Fracture and Failure Prevention under Combined Environments, Mechanistic study of physico-chemical processes of stress corrosion cracking based on mechano-chemical oxidation kinetics. He has published more than 330 journal papers, and becomes several international board members of international committee and conference. He is the recipient of the following distinctions awards: ASTM Division Award for Annual Best Paper published in JTEV [ASTM] March 2001; JSME Division Award for International Activity, Division of Mechanics and Materials [JSME] October 2002; Japan Thermal Spraying Society Award for best papers, Japan, June 2003; First Prime in the competition on fundamental investigations in the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics for 2003, Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics SB, Russian Academy of Science (2003); Japan Thermal Spraying Society Award for best papers, Japan, June 2004; Japan Thermal Spraying Society Award for outstanding performance, Japan, December 2004, etc.
