The 3rd IMR Symposium on Materials Science and Engineering - Frontier and Future of Advanced Functional Materials was held in IMR from July 11- July 13, 2007.

To promote the international cooperation and exchange for new idea of research and development on materials, IMR established its Symposium on Materials Science and Engineering since 2003 and successfully held several symposiums during last few years. It has become an annual meeting from this year, and will be supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences.

There were prominent scholars in the field of new advanced functional materials attending the 3rd IMR symposium，including Prof. F. R. de Boer of University of Amsterdam, Prof. M.E. Hawley of National Lab of Los Alamos, Prof. Qi Li of Penn State University, Prof. X. Jiang and Dr. T. Staedler of University of Siegen, Germany, Prof. Y. A. Lee of Sungkyunkwan University, Korea, Dr. C.L. Chen of University of Texas at San Antonio, Dr. L.Z.Sun of University of California at Irvine etc.. There were 14 oversea scientists giving invited talks.

There were over 200 Ph. D students and scientists from 50 different universities and research institutes all over the country also taking part in the symposium. After the symposium all participants appreciated the sponsor and invited speakers for their careful arrangement and excellent academic topics, and a good opportunity to learn and understand the most recent research results on materials science.
