Invited by Director, Prof. Ke Lu of IMR, Prof. Reiner Kirchheim, Director of Institute of Material Physics, University of Gottingen, visited IMR for Lee Hsun Lecture Series on 23, Oct. 2007.
During his stay in IMR, Prof. Kirchheim was invited to deliver a lecture with title of “A new way of describing the interaction of solute atoms and defects”, visited Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, and held in-depth discussion with Prof. Ke Lu and scientists from Solids Atomic Imaging Division.
Prof. Kirchheim obtained his Ph.D degree from University of Stuttgart, Germany. His research areas and interest are: Hydrogen in metals, Thermodynamics of alloys, Interstital solution and diffusion in glasses (metals, oxides, polymers and semiconductors), Solute-atom segregation at and diffusion in internal interfaces, Mechanical properties and glass transition of polymers, Passivity of metals, Electromigration in metals. Owing to his outstanding contributions, he has been granted various honorable awards including Highly Cited Author in Materials Science (1980-2000), Honda Memorial Award, Tohoku-University, Sendai in 2003, and Heyn-Denkmünze, the highest award of the German Materials Society, DGM in 2004.
