The 3rd Meeting of the 2nd Academic Committee of the Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL) was held on 28th April at the SYNL.

Attending the meeting were members of the Academic Committee of the SYNL, including Prof. Chang-xu Shi, Prof. Heng-qiang Ye, Prof. Nai-ben Min, Prof. Jing Zhu, Prof. Chain-tsuan Liu, Prof. Shuit-tong Lee, Prof. Chen Wang, Prof. Zhong-guang Wang and Prof. Ke Lu. Mr. Xiao-han Liao, deputy director-general of Department of Basic Research of MOST, Mr. Cheng-wei Che, head of Material Science Division of NSFC, Mr. Feng Pan, deputy director of Comprehensive Planning Bureau of CAS, and Ms. Gui-ju Liu, deputy director of Hi-Tech Research and Development Bureau of CAS, were also present the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Heng-qiang Ye of the Institute of Metal Research, CAS, Chairman of the Academic Committee of the SYNL, Prof. Nai-ben Min of Nanjing University, and Prof. Jing Zhu of Tsinghua University, respectively.

During the meeting, Prof. Ke LU, Director of the SYNL, gave a summarizing report on the overall performance of the SYNL during the last two years. Then, three lectures were delivered by Prof. Dian-zhong Li, head of Materials Process Modeling Division, Prof. Lei Lu, Materials Fatigue and Fracture Division, and associate Prof. Wen-cai Ren, Advanced Carbons Division.

The participants carried out intensively discussions on all the reports and presentations. They gave full consent and high evacuation to management, research field development facing the demands of the national strategy and original research work (such as the maximum strength in nanotwinned copper, synthesis, tailoring, characterization and application explorations of graphene, and key manufacturing technology of the large marine crankshaft forgings, etc.) of the SYNL. The participants also set forth many pertinent advices and proposals on the future work of the laboratory.
