The 3rd Asian Symposium on Magnesium Alloys was held from Sept. 21-23, 2009 in the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR CAS). The Chairman of this symposium was Dr. En-Hou Han, Professor of IMR CAS and Vice President of Shenyang Branch of CAS. The symposium focused on magnesium research and application in Asian, it including: primary production, refining & recycling, alloy development, microstructure characterization, corrosion & surface finish ，industrial application，etc. 33 well known professors and scientists gave invited presentations, 290 experts and students from Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Russia, France, China and Chinese Taibei participated the symposium. During the symposium, there were 20 younger scientists and students selected as best poster award from more than 200 posters.

After the symposium, all the participants were invited to visit Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science, State Key Laboratory for Corrosion and Protection of Metals, and National Engineering Research Center for Corrosion Control of Metals in IMR CAS.
