At the invitation of Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Prof. Roger C. Reed from University of Birmingham visited IMR on Dec.12-Dec.15, as a recipient of 2011 Lee Hsun Lecture Award.. During the visit, Prof. Roger C. Reed delivered a lecture entitled as “Numerical Modelling for the Design of New Nickel-Based Single Crystal Superalloys”. Before the lecture, Prof. Yang Rui the Deputy Director of IMR presented the plaque of Lee Hsun Lecture Award to Prof. Reed. The excellent lecture got a high degree of attention and praise. After the lecture, Prof. Reed gave excellent answers to the audience’s questions. He also had an academic discussion with many researchers in relevant fields.
Prof. Roger C. Reed from the department of Metallurgy and Materials, Birmingham University, UK., graduated from the Cambridge University in 1990. He makes important contribution to Nickel base superalloy single crystal deformation mechanism, structure of alloy microstructure evolution and manufacturing process simulation, material calculation model, etc. He was elected the fellow of British Institute of materials in 2005. He is the member of the editorial boards of Materials Science & Technology and Metallurgical & Materials Transactions. He is also the member of TMS’s High Temperature Committee, and the program chair for International symposium on superalloys 2008, and was voted the General chair for 2012 meeting. Prof. Roger C. Reed has published more than 80 papers, and his research works were elected as the Best Paper Award by the American Society for Metals (ASM) in 2001 and 2004.
