At the invitation of the Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Prof. Shigeharu Kamado, from the Nagaoka University of Technology, visited IMR from May 31 to Jun.8, as a recipient of 2012 Lee Hsun Research Award.
During the visit, Prof. Kamado delivered a lecture entitled “Development of high performance wrought magnesium alloys containing only common metals by conventional hot extrusion”, and the lecture was presided over by Prof. HAN Enhou. Before the lecture, Prof. CHENG Huiming, the Deputy Director of IMR, presented the plaque of Lee Hsun Research Award to Prof. Kamado. The attractive lecture was met with enthusiastic response and Prof. Kamado gave excellent answers to the audience’s questions. After the lecture, Prof. Kamado visited the Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL). He also had an academic discussion with many researchers in the relevant fields, and deliberated on the future cooperation.
Prof. Kamado was known as the best in magnesium alloy in Japan, mainly committing to the research in the manufacturing process of the magnesium alloy metal material, as well as the relationship between the microstructure and mechanical properties. As the head of the only one Research Center for Advanced Magnesium Technology in Japan, Prof. Kamado has published 194 academic papers of magnesium alloy, he also was invited to attend international conferences where he published papers 150 times. Furthermore, he was invited to do special reports in Japanese domestic magazines, universities, enterprises and international research institutions 56 times, and has 29 patent applications.
