At the invitation of the Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Prof. Peter Hodgson from the Deakin University of Austrilia visited IMR from Jun. 6th to Jun.8th, as a recipient of 2012 Lee Hsun Lecture Award. Prof. KONG Lingxue, Dr. Bernard Rolfe, Dr. Alireza Asgari and Dr. CAI Minghui from the Deakin University accompanied with him. 

During the visit, Prof. Peter Hodgson delivered a lecture titled “The Development and Advanced Characterisation of Next Generation Steels”, and an awarding ceremony was held before the lecture. The lecture and awarding ceremony was presided over by Prof. LI Dianzhong. Prof. LI Yiyi presented the plaque of Lee Hsun Lecture Award to Prof. Peter Hodgson. The excellent reports attracted hundreds of researchers and graduate students to attend, and won the applause every now and then. After the lecture, Prof. Peter Hodgson answered the audience’s questions. During the visit, Prof. Peter Hodgson and his entourage visited the Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL) and the Calculation and Simulation Technology Lab of the Titanium Alloys Division. They also had an academic discussion with many researchers in relevant fields.

During the visit, Prof. LI Yiyi, Prof. LI Dianzhong, and Prof. LIU Min, the head of the Graduate School had a meeting with Prof. Peter Hodgson and Prof. KONG Lingxue. They discussed future cooperation plans and details, and signed a memorandum of understanding. In the furture, both sides will exchange visiting scholars and graduate students to enhance communication. Dr. XIAO Namin from the Materials Process Modeling Division and Dr. LI Shuyan, the head of the foreign affair office attended the signing of the Memo.

Prof. Peter Hodgson, a famous scientist in the Iron and steel materials fields, is the Director of the Institute for Technology Research and Innovation of Deakin University. He mainly researched in the advanced materials, manufacturing processes, advanced microstructure characterization and light alloy materials. He got the Australian Laureate Fellowship in 2009 and holds the editor of many International Journals, including Materials Science & Technology and ISIJ. Prof. Peter Hodgson had published more than 300 papers, served as president of the international conference and was invited to report for many times.
