At the invitation of the Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Prof. Vinayak P. Dravid and Dr. WU Jinsong, from Northwestern University, visited IMR from Sept.10th to Sept.12th.
As a recipient of 2012 Lee Hsun Research Awards, Prof. Vinayak P. Dravid delivered a lecture entitled “Teaching "Old" Materials "New" Tricks: Nanopatterning & Microscopy of Multifunctional Materials”, which was presided over by Prof. MA Xiuliang. Before the lecture, Prof. YE Hengqiang presented the plaque of Lee Hsun Research Awards to Prof. Dravid. The attractive lectures were met with enthusiastic response. Dr. WU JinSong also delivered a lecture entitled “Electron tomography of Au nanoparticle superlattices”. During the visit, Prof. Dravid and Dr. WU visited the Solid Atomic Imaging Division and had academic discussions with many researchers.
Prof. Vinayak P. Dravid graduated from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 1984, and got his PhD degree from Lehigh University in 1990. He has been the director of NUANCE (NU Atomic-and-Nanoscale Characterization Experimental) Center since 2001. Prof. Dravid is mainly engaged in material microstructure study for many years, and has very high attainments in the fields of material interface and defect structure. The research group he leads is the most active group in this field. Prof. Dravid had gotten many awards from the Microscopy Society of America (MSA) and American Ceramic Society (ACerS). In recent years, Prof. Dravid was invited to delivered reports on international conference more than 230 times. He had published more than 230 papers, including 3 papers in Nature, 4 papers in Science, and 7 papers in Phys.Rev.Letts. Ultramicroscopy.
