At the invitation of the Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Prof. John R. Scully, from The University of Virginia, visited IMR from Sept.17th to Sept. 20th, as a recipient of 2011 Lee Hsun Research Award.
During the visit, Prof. John R. Scully delivered a lecture entitled “Grand Challenges in Corrosion Science and Engineering and Some New Insights Regarding the Influence of Microstructural Heterogeneity on Corrosion Processes”, which was presided over by Prof. HAN Enhou. Before the lecture, Prof. ZHANG Jian, the deputy director of IMR, presented the plaque of Lee Hsun Lecture Award to Prof. John R. Scully. Prof. John R. Scully visited the Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL) and Environmental Corrosion Research Centre, he also delivered a series of lecture.
Prof. John R. Scully graduated from The Johns Hopkins University in 1980, and got his PhD degree in 1987. He is the member of board of NACE International, and is committed to the research of corrosion electrochemistry, Passive and negative rupture and Stress corrosion. He had made important contribution to the field of materials science and engineering, and had gotten many awards from NACE and ASTM. Moreover, He had published more than 200 papers, which were cited more than 2500 times.
