The minister counsellor of Australian Embassy, Ms.Cathryn Hlavka, who is responsible for education and scientific affairs, visited IMR on July 11th. Ms. LEI Xiaofeng, the Senior Manager of Education, Science and Research Section of Australian Embassy and Ms.Yu Dan, the Business Development Manager of Australian Trade Commission Shenyang office, also took part in this visit.
Prof. ZHANG Zhefeng and Prof. ZHANG Jian, both the deputy director of IMR warmly welcomed Ms. Cathryn Hlavka. In the meeting, Prof. ZHANG Jian firstly introduced the basic situation of IMR to Ms. Cathryn Hlavka, including the important research fields, research achievements, graduates training and international cooperation. Minister-counsellor Cathryn Hlavka highly appreciated the cooperation between University of Queensland and Deakin University and IMR. During the exchange, Minister-counsellor Cathryn Hlavka asked several topics of common interest in detail, including the important research fields of IMR and graduates training. Prof. CHENG Huiming, the director of Advanced Carbon Division, Dr. LIU Gang from Advanced Carbon Division and Dr. XIAO Namin from Materials Process Modeling Division also attended this meeting.
After the meeting, Minister-counsellor Cathryn Hlavka visited the photochemical catalysis Lab and Battery testing lab of Advanced Carbon Division and some labs of Materials Process Modeling Division.
At the end of the visit, Minister-counsellor Cathryn Hlavka said that IMR gave her a deep impression, especially on the research level and the cooperation with Australia. She hoped both the two sides can complement advantages and develop a deeper cooperation in various fields in future.
In recent years, IMR has developed a series of successful cooperation with University of Queensland and Deakin University, especially, the cooperation between Prof. Gaoqing (Max) LU, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Queensland and Advanced Carbon Division leaded by Prof. CHENG Huiming on the field of clean energy since 2003. They have finished many cooperate projects, trained 8 doctors and masters, published more than 90 papers and applied 10 patents together. For the outstanding contribution of Prof. LU in the Sino-Australian cooperation of science and technology, he was rewarded the 2010 annual "The International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences ", and also rewarded the “The International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the People Republic of China” in 2011, recommended by CAS. In addition, IMR signed a memorandum of cooperation with Deakin University in 2012. Prof. Peter Hodgson, the Director of the Institute for Technology Research and Innovation of Deakin University, as the recipient of Lee Hsun Lecture Award in 2012, has formed a good cooperation with IMR in the fields of advanced steel materials and manufacturing technology, high strength steel of Autocar.
