IMR Attends the 6th World Materials Research Institutes Forum

The 6th World Materials Research Institutes Forum (6th WMRIF) was held in Livermore, CA, USA from 14 to 16 September. Hosted by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory the forum attracted more than 70 scientists from 22 institutes all over the world. Prof. ZHANG Jian, the Deputy Director of IMR, Prof. CHEN Xingqiu and Prof. DU Kui was invited to give speeches.

The first part of the forum was the Summit Conference of World Materials Research Institutes, which focused on current hot topics on materials science and engineering. The new WMRIF committee was also elected in the conference. Dr. L. Locascio, from National Institute of Standards and Technology will serve as the new chairman of the forum. The second part was the Seminar of Computational Materials Sciences, Characterization and “Critical” Materials. 21 researchers were invited to present the recent progresses.

Established in 2005, WMRIF is committed to accelerate the establishment of a structure to promote material strategies based on global networking. The WMRIF is held biennially and the previous ones were in Japan, Germany, USA, China (IMR) and Switzerland respectively.
