The recipient of 2015 Lee Hsun Lecture Series—Lee Hsun Young Scientist Lecture Series on Materials Science , Dr. Sergio Lozano-Perez from Department of Materials, University of Oxford visited Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS) from 20 to 26 September.
On the ceremony of Lee Hsun Lecture Series, Dr. Sergio Lozano-Perez gave a Lecture of “SCC of austenitic alloys in nuclear reactors”. He also attended the 4th International Symposium on Materials and Reliability in Nuclear Power Plants which jointly hosted by The China Nuclear Energy Association and IMR.
Dr. Sergio Lozano-Perez’s research focuses on the application of leading edge microscopy techniques to the understanding of materials properties. He has pioneered the use of Focused Ion Beams (FIBs) for preparing the most challenging samples and obtain 3D reconstructions, as well as the application of Multivariate Statistical Analysis (MSA) to the processing of big Electron Energy Loss (EEL), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy and APT datasets. In Materials Science, his area of expertise lies in the understanding of different forms of materials degradation under extreme environments. In particular, he has extensively worked with zirconium, iron and nickel alloys from nuclear reactors, with projects ranging from precipitation hardening in reactor pressure vessels to environmentally assisted cracking in the reactor’s cooling system.
Prof. ZHANG Jian, the Deputy Director of IMR presented the plaque of Lee Hsun Young Scientist Lecture Series on Materials Science to Dr. Sergio Lozano-Perez
