On Oct. 21st, a delegation from Baden-Württemberg State of Germany visited the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS). Baden-Württemberg State is one of the strongest states both in the field of economics and science& technology in Germany. The delegation is composed of 23 directors of major universities and research institutes in Baden-Württemberg State.

Prof. YANG Rui, director of IMR gave a welcome speech on behalf of IMR. Prof. ZHANG Jian, deputy director of IMR introduced the basic condition, research development, graduates education and international cooperation of IMR.Ms. Theresia Bauer, Science Minister in Baden-Württemberg State, introduced the development of science and technology in Baden-Württemberg State. Prof. Oliver Kraft, deputy president of Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) gave an introduction of KIT’s research, following that, Prof. ZHANG Guangping introduced the cooperation with KIT and the development of fellow research team between CAS and the Helmholtz Association.Afterwards, they conducted a deep and lively discussion about launching international cooperation.

These years, IMR has been conducted multi-level and multi-field research cooperation with research institutes in Germany like Max Planck Society, the Helmholtz Association, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie, Hamburger University and major enterprises like Siemens, Bosch. Since 2001, 20 Germanexperts in the field ofmaterials science and engineering including Prof. Martin Stratmann, president of Max Planck Society, have been invited to give Lee Hsun Lecture Series in IMR which promotes the exchange and cooperation between researchers from the two countries.
