The recipient of 2016 Lee Hsun Lecture Series—Lee Hsun Lecture Award, Prof. Pavol Šajgalík, the president of Slovak of Slovak Academy of Sciences, visited Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS) from October 12 to 16, 2016.
During the visit, Prof. Pavol Šajgalík delivered a lecture entitled “GB chemistry of silicon nitride based ceramics - implications to the ceramics properties”. He discussed mechanical properties of dense Si3N4/SiC micro/nano composites, the thermal shock resistance, wear resistance and oxidation resistance in the lecture.
Prof. Pavol Šajgalík also conducted academic exchange with researchers and graduates from the High-performance Ceramics Division. Collaboration on high damage tolerant structure ceramics was expected after the meeting.
Prof. Pavol Šajgalík is the President of Slovak Academy of Sciences and President of the European Ceramic Society. His research interests focus on oxide and non-oxide structural ceramics, ceramic (nano-) composites, microstructural design, and relationship between microstructure and properties. Prof. Pavol Šajgalík has been acknowledged for his academic contributions by numerous national and international awards such as Contribution to the Productivity of Ministry of Economy Slovak Republic and Stuijts Award of the European Ceramic Society.
