The Chinese version of Mechanical Behavior of Materials has been published by Higher Education Press recently. It was written by Marc André Meyers from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, San Diego and Krishan Kumar Chawla from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Alabama at Birmingham and translated by Prof. ZHANG Zhefeng and Prof. LU Lei et al. from Shenyang National Laboratory for Materials Science (SYNL), Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS).
Mechanical Behavior of Materials was published by Cambridge University Press for the first time in 1999 and republished in 2009. This book is unique in that it presents important principles involved in the mechanical behavior of different materials: metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, electronic materials and biomaterials. It provides an introductory treatment of the mechanical behavior of materials with a balanced mechanics--materials approach, which makes it suitable for both mechanical and materials engineering students.
High-performance structure materials, the very important material basis of manufacturing industry, is one of the most intense high-tech competition fields with the development and promotion of manufacturing industry taking a significant role in our economic development. Chinese high-end manufacturing has an urgent need for mechanical behavior of materials research achievement. So under the recommendation of Prof. LU Ke and Prof. WANG Zhongguang, SYNL initiated the translation of Mechanical Behavior of Materials with the authorization of Prof. Meyers and Cambridge University Press.
The Chinese version of Mechanical Behavior of Materials was translated by ZHANG Zhefeng, LU Lei, ZHANG Guangping, JIN Haijun, HAN Zhong, ZHANG Hongwang, LI Peng, ZHANG Peng, PANG Jianchao, QU Ruitao, WANG Qiang and SHAO Junchao. Finally Prof. WANG Zhongguang did all the proofreading work.
