The 6th International Conference on Magnesium (ICM6) was held from September 23 to 26, 2017 in Shenyang, China.
The ICM6 was hosted by Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS) and organized by Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS).
The conference attracted more than 400 participants from 11 countries including China, Germany, Britain, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia etc. 13 splendid plenary lectures were given by renowned scientists like Academician DING Wenjiang, Prof. Karl Ulrich Kainer, Prof. Andrej Atrens, Prof. Kwang Seon Shin, Prof. Daolun Chen, Prof. Zhongyun Fan, Prof. Jian Lu et al.
The president of the Conference is Prof. PAN Fusheng from Chongqing University. The president of the Program Committee is Prof. YANG Yuansheng form IMR. The Conference provided a forum for exchanges and discussions of new ideas and the latest achievements related to magnesium and its alloys.
Due to the low-density and high-specific strength, and many attractive characteristics, magnesium alloys are expected to enjoy increasing use in automotive, aerospace, computers, and communication and consumer industries. Although the global economic crisis and price turmoil in 2008 have seriously affected the development of Mg industry and related activities, many encouraging innovations and progresses in Mg smelting technologies, new alloy development, new processing techniques and innovative applications have taken places around the world in recent years. The wrought magnesium alloys, especially the magnesium alloy extrusion sheets, have been applied in a wider range, like 3C products and aerospace.
Since the 1st International Conference on Magnesium was held in Beijing in 2003, ICM conferences were held in Beijing (2005) and in Qingdao (2008, 2011, 2013). As a continuation of the previous successful International Conferences on Magnesium, ICM6 was aimed to further promote the understanding, development and applications of magnesium and its alloys.
ICM6 was also supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences.
