Prof. Daolun Chen, Academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering from Ryerson University, visited Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS) from September 26 to 30, 2017, invited by Prof. MA Zongyi from Non-equilibrium Metallic Materials Division.
During the visit, Prof. Chen delivered a lecture entitled “Ultrasonic Spot Welding of Lightweight Alloys for Automotive Applications”. He presented examples on the ultrasonic spot welding of similar Mg/Mg and Al/Al and dissimilar Mg/Al, Mg/steel and Al/steel. He also introduced the evolution in the microstructure and texture as well as fatigue properties and fracture mechanisms of the welded joints.
Prof. Chen conducted academic exchanges with researchers from Prof. MA Zongyi’s group on the international cooperation project. He also visited Academician LI Yiyi, Academician CHENG Huiming, and his supervisors, Prof. WANG Zhongguang and Prof. JIANG Xiaoxia.
Prof. Chen is Ryerson Research Chair at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Ryerson University, Canada. He received his Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering from IMR, 1989. Prof. Chen's research interests include advanced materials (bio- and nano-materials and composites) and critical engineering materials and their mechanical properties, fatigue, and fracture. And he was inducted as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 2017.
