Symposium on Water Chemistry and Corrosion in Nuclear Power plants in Asia - 2017 (AWC 2017) & 5th International Symposium on Materials and Reliability in Nuclear Power Plants (5th MRNPP) was held from September 25 to 28, 2017 in Shenyang, China. The AWC 2017 and 5th MRNPP in organized by Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS).

The symposium attracted 147 participants from more than 30 institutes and companies all around the world including GE global research center, ISOFLEX, Oxford University, Sandvik, VTT, CORMET, Tohoku University, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan Atomic Industrial Forum, HITACHI, TOSHIBA, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, KAIST, and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute etc. Prof. Peter L. Andresen, the NAE Member, Damien Feron, President of the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC), Ulla Ehrnsten, chief scientist of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, DOU Yikang, chief engineer of Shanghai Power Equipment Research Instititue, Prof. Yutaka Watanabe from Tohoku University and Prof. Tsung-Kuang Yeh, President of International Cooperative Group on Environmentally Assisted Cracking also attended the symposium.

The AWC symposium is held every two years. The objectives of this symposium are to exchange technical information, operational experiences, and latest research findings among engineers and researchers of utilities, vendors, research institutes and universities and to enhance the international cooperation in the fields of reactor water chemistry and material corrosion in nuclear power plants.

The MRNPP symposium is also held every two years by China Nuclear Energy Association and IMR, CAS in order to enhance the cooperation between China and other countries, also promote research and development of nuclear materials to ensure the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants. This symposium has been successfully held in Shenyang in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. Almost 200 attendees jointed in 2015.
