The Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS), recently hosted a visit of Prof. Chul-Jin Choi, Director of the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS) and recipient of the 2025 Lee Hsun Lecture Award. The academic exchange took place from May 12 to 14, 2025. He was accompanied by Dr. Ji-Hoon Park from KIMS and Mr. Sang-Hyun Park, International Cooperation Officer.

A keynote event of the visit was Prof. Chul-Jin Choi’s lecture titled "Advancing Materials Science: From Nanoparticle Synthesis to Novel Permanent Magnets". He presented cutting-edge research on magnetic materials, particularly in the fields of nanoparticle synthesis and permanent magnetic materials. He highlighted major research achievements in permanent magnets, focusing on the rare-earth-free magnets through innovative compositions and processing techniques. The lecture sparked a vibrant Q&A session with IMR researchers and students engaging deeply with the presented topics.

Strengthening institution ties, Prof. LIU Gang, Director of IMR and Prof. Chul-Jin Choi renewed the cooperation agreement between IMR and KIMS. The Korean delegation also visited the IMR exhibition hall and the laboratories of the Department of Functional Materials and Devices. They held in-depth technical discussions on magnetic nanopowder material processing technology and its pratical applications.

Prof. Chul-Jin Choi, who also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Hanyang University, is a leading expert in magnetic nanomaterials and powder metallurgy. He is renowned for his outstanding accomplishments in new magnetic materials development, nanopowder processing technologies transfer, and contributing to the R&D strategies for new materials. He has honored with numerous prestigious awardsincluding the 2010 Chairman's Award from the Korea Industrial Technology Council, the 2012 Seo Jeong Award from the Korea Institute of Materials Science, the 2014 Minister's Award from the Korean Magnetics Society, and the 2016 Technology Award from the same society. Prof. Choi has published 166 SCI-indexed academic papers in journals such as Appl. Phys. Lett. and J. Appl. Phys., along with 5 review articles. His single most-cited paper has been cited 346 times, and his H-index is 35.
