From September 17 to 18, A research project from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS), Has been awarded the first prize in the 10th China Aerospace Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held in Anshun, Guizhou. The winning project, "Development and Application of High-Speed Impact Hydroforming Technology for Complex Thin-Walled Components of Difficult-to-Deform Metals for Aviation Applications", was presented by Prof. XU Yong from the Advanced Plastic Processing and Microstructure-Property Control Technology Research Group at the final. The research team has pioneered a groundbreaking impact hydroforming technology and built China's first high-speed impact hydroforming precision equipment. This innovation overcomes the core challenge of traditional processes, which struggle to balance forming precision, microstructural properties, and processing efficiency. It enables precise forming of complex thin-walled components from difficult-to-deform metals like titanium alloys, balancing precision with efficiency. The technology, already applied in major aviation manufacturers, is internationally advanced and also won a gold medal at the 2024 Geneva Inventions Exhibition.
