The 6th International Symposium on Energy Storage Materials (ISES 6) was successfully held from September 21 to 24 in Shenyang, China, brought together global leaders to advance research and innovation in energy storage technologies. Co-hosted by the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS) and Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS), and co-organized by Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT), CAS, Northeastern University, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, CAS, and Elsevier. The event attracted over 400 experts, scholars, and industry representatives worldwide.

The opening ceremony chaired by Prof. KANG Feiyu from Tsinghua SIGS with keynote addresses from Academician CHENG Huiming (SIAT/IMR), Prof. LIU Gang (IMR Director) and Ms. SUN Xiaohui (Vice Chair and Party Secretary of the Shenyang Association for Science and Technology) on the morning of September 22.

The symposium featured two main conference halls and multiple parallel sessions covered lithium/sodium/potassium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries and the design, preparation, performance characterization, and industrial application of energy storage materials.

More than 10 luminaries, including Academician OUYANG Minggao (Tsinghua), Academician SUN Xueliang (Ningbo IET), Academician Stefano Passerini (KIT, Germany), Academician Sang-Young Lee (Yonsei, Korea) and Prof. Huolin Xin (UC Irvine), shared groundbreaking research. A special Young Scientist Forum empowered early-career researchers, which emphasized industry-academia-research integration, while corporate attendees explored technology transfer opportunities. 

During the conference, Academician CHENG Huiming received the Energy Storage Materials Journal Special Contribution Award, and the 2024 Energy Storage Materials Scholar Award and Energy Storage Materials Young Scholar Awards were also presented, chaired by Prof. LI Feng (IMR) at the closing ceremony.

ISES 6 established a valuable platform for global exchange and cooperation, accelerating innovation in energy storage materials and bridging academia with industry. The symposium’s outcomes are of significant importance for driving energy storage technology innovation and industrial development.
