The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) Materials Science and Engineering Science-Education Integration Forum and the Second Shi Changxu Materials Science and Technology Forum were successfully held at the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS), on August 27, 2025.
The event brought together leading experts, academicians, and over 400 participants to discuss trends in materials science integration and explore future development pathways.
Attendees included USTC President CHANG Jin, Academicians FANG Zhong and ZHANG Di, IMR Academicians LI Yiyi, KE Wei, CHENG Huiming, and LI Dianzhong, as well as government representatives from Shenyang and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In opening speeches, leaders emphasized the importance of inheriting the spirit of materials scientist Shi Changxu, strengthening science-education collaboration, and serving social development needs in science and technology.
USTC Vice Dean PAN Nan outlined the progress and achievements of the university’s science-education integration model. IMR Director and Dean of USTC School of Materials Science Prof. LIU Gang delivered a report titled “IMR’s Journey in Materials Innovation — Staying True, Innovating, Integrating, and Embracing the Future,” highlighting IMR’s research outcomes and talent development efforts.
The forum also featured the presentation of the “Shi Changxu Lecture Award” to Academicians FANG Zhong and ZHANG Di, who gave keynote lectures on topological quantum materials and configurational composites, respectively.
A total of 26 experts from leading universities nationwide presented academic reports, fostering in-depth exchange and collaboration.
The event provided a high-level platform for academic dialogue, contributing to deeper science-education integration.
During the forum, CHANG Jin also visited the newly built graduate dormitory to inspect living conditions and supporting facilities, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a high-quality environment for student development.
