At the invitation of the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMR, CAS), Dr. Vladimir Petrenko, the 2026 Lee Hsun Cooperative Research Award recipient, visited IMR from June 1 to 5, 2026.
During his visit, Dr. Petrenko delivered a lecture titled "Assessment of Joint Relations Evolution, Cooperation Experience, and Long-term Prospects" to IMR researchers and graduate students.
In his presentation, Dr. Petrenko highlighted the key stages of the scientific collaboration between IMR and the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. He provided an overview of the joint research directions in metal forming, tracing the evolution from initial project-based cooperation to the establishment of a joint research laboratory, and further expanding into collaborative work in areas such as special alloy development and coating applications.
During his stay, Dr. Petrenko also participated in the kick-off meeting for the National Key Research and Development Program project of the China-Belarus Joint Laboratory.
Dr. Vladimir Petrenko is Deputy Director of the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Chief Expert in cross-wedge rolling technology, and an expert of the State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Processing Technology and Equipment from the Advanced Research Institute of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences in 2011. At the Physical-Technical Institute, he has served in various roles, including project chief designer, deputy laboratory head, laboratory head, senior researcher, deputy head of the research division, and deputy director. A world-renowned expert in metal forming technology and equipment, he specializes in cross-wedge rolling and processing of special materials, as well as high-speed forming methods and high-energy magnetic field deformation and modification. He also served as Vice President of the Belarusian Steel Rolling Company and is currently a visiting professor at the Belarusian State Academy of Aviation.
Dr. Petrenko serves as the Belarusian Director of the China-Belarus Joint Laboratory co-established by IMR and the Physical-Technical Institute. He has received numerous honors, including the CAS Young Scientist International Cooperation Award, the Presidential Honorary Award for Young Scientists of Belarus, the Honorary Award for Research and Production Activities of Belarus, and medals from the Ministry of Industry of Belarus.
